Second Helpings with author Linda Rondeau
Today is Jocelyn Johnson’s forty-fifth birthday. Unhappy with her marriage of twenty-two years, she has planned a noonday tryst with her talk-show cohost. A phone call from her college daughter, a peek into her teenaged son’s journal, a sick preschooler, a Goth daughter’s identity crisis, a middle-school son’s prank, and her husband’s inflamed suspicions, not only interfere with her hopeful birthday plans but throw her family into more chaos than a circus on steroids.
In desperate need of counsel, Jocelyn invites a Christian, her guest from her morning talk-show segment, to dinner. However, the evening holds little promise of calm. In the midst of bedlam, a forgotten faith rekindles causing Jocelyn to rethink her life and her marriage. AMAZON LINK FOR THIS BOOK

As a renowned wizard, Fitzwilliam Darcy thinks he is familiar with most of the spells, enchantments, and magic practised in the wizarding world. When he reluctantly joins his friend Bingley in Meryton, a small town not known for its magic, he is startled to stumble upon the rare gift possessed by Miss Elizabeth Bennet. The daughter of a poor country squire, she possesses a singular talent: she is not only immune to magic, but she can counter enchantments as well.
Despite their initial dislike of each other, the two draw closer as the threat from the Thieving Necromancer, a dark wizard stealing people’s magic, grows more dangerous.
As Darcy battles nefarious wizards and Elizabeth unravels ever more difficult spells, they uncover dark secrets and break mysterious enchantments.
But love may prove the most important magic of all.

VIEW THIS LIVESTREAM HERE: https://www.facebook.com/events/2672290089541344/
Some writers are called intuitive; that is they have a vague concept of what they want to say and how they want to say it. They prefer to flesh things out in their minds and then when inspiration hits, they write directly to the page, developing the major elements of the story as they progress. This workshop will provide the intuitive writer, or panster, five key plot points to assist in moving the story forward in a logical progression without strategic and painstaking comprehensive plotting.

Building A Marketing Strategy For Authors
With Ariele Seiling
When you choose to pursue your dream of becoming a full-time writer, there's always one pesky little thing that stands in the way: marketing. To make money means to tell people about your work, and this is particularly difficult when you're selling your heart and soul. So how do you decide what marketing activities are going to work and which ones aren't? How do you figure out exactly where to spend your time and money? How do you build a strategy for selling books or art from scratch?
In this presentation, author Ariele Sieling takes a closer look at marketing from a high-level perspective. She discusses the "why" behind choosing a variety of marketing tactics, and provides a simple system for growing and building your marketing plan.

Creativity In Times of Stress with Ariele Sieling
VIEW THIS RECORDING HERE: https://youtu.be/JahZd6ASxGI
With the world upside down and everyone stressed, being creative seems like a simple way to de-stress. But how are we supposed to create when we barely have the energy to get out of bed in the morning, make sure the kids get dressed, or to shower? It’s a paradox: being creative helps to de-stress, but how are you supposed to be creative when you’re too stressed to create?
In this virtual talk, join full-time writer Ariele Sieling as she explores strategies for igniting your creativity despite overwhelming anxiety, an upside down world, and a seemingly never-ending quarantine.

Coming of Age - Hair Workshop for Teens with Keianna Johnson
Now that you are a teenager, everyone expects you to know how to care for your hair on your own yet forgot to set aside time to teach you. So you've gone day to day winging it. Some of you have cut cornrows out of your hair accidentally trying to take down crochet braids. Some of you who have Locs used creamy conditioner to moisturize your hair only to discover how hard it is to rinse out. Then there are some of you who forgot to detangle your hair before shampooing just to have a 2-hour comb out session in which you've lost a bunch of hair. Writing this book was essential to me because I want every tween/teenage girl to be confident in her ability to make healthy choices for her hair. I hope this book provide clear instructions that will assist you in managing your hair on your own.

Fish Bones and Bread Crumbs by Burgundi Allison
Inspired by a TD Jakes sermon titled "Save the Scraps," this collection of writings is an ode to lessons learned, honoring the remnants of a faith walk that transformed a woman into a worshiper. The text was Mark 6:42-52, the miracle of the 5 thousand fed, but the focus was verses 43 and 52- the taking of the scraps and their significance. Bishop Jakes began with this statement – "That which remains is greater than that which was lost." He highlights verse 41 where Jesus blesses the five loaves and two fish, admonishing that He is blessing what is not enough; and that the blessing and multiplication happens at the breaking. Selah. Before a true relationship with God, a woman's make is tethered to her experiences with man. This guided journal unravels one woman's heart revealing her truths, missteps, and victories through written reflections. Each reflection is followed by writing prompts that guide the reader's own journey of self-discovery that breaks open the heart to make room for God. GET HER BOOK HERE

There has been much to celebrate in the Archer family. August’s grandmother has been rejuvenated by late-life romance, honeymooning with the man who has waited so long for her. Her mother too has found love again, and even her best friend has come back into her life. With her own true love Faolan, August can finally enjoy just being an everyday couple in their little Maryland town—even if the mother of his child has been an irritating presence in their lives lately (and even if that bond is something August wonders if she’ll ever have with him).
She knows she must keep up her fight training, and with Faolan’s help she’s learning to control the fierce power emerging within her. Yet August wants nothing more than to heal the old rifts in the Archer clan, and bring her estranged aunt Blair home. Blair Conall, however, is not a lady to be trusted. Having deserted her family years ago to secretly marry the leader of the lycan clan, the Archers’ ancient enemies—and later plotted his downfall as well—she is a complicated woman with her own plans and her own rules.
But back in their Scottish homeland, the Lycan Council crafted a vicious and twisted scheme to rebuild their power. Reaching across the waters to Baltimore, they send a bloodthirsty killer after August, while calling on their monstrous cousins in the city’s rundown waterfronts to set a trap—and who better to bait it with than Blair herself? August may soon find that the most dangerous enemy is the one you call a friend, in this third book in the Red August series.

Returning for her second appearance with The Write Women Book Fest D’Manda Martini will be reading “Her Body Can” by Katie Crenshaw & Ady Meschke
“Her body is beautiful—strong, kind and wise. All bodies are lovely no matter their size.” Her Body Can is a book of poetic self-love and body positivity declarations for all young girls. Its aim is to encourage our young girls to create a reality for themselves in which they love themselves and their bodies for exactly who and what they are, instead of learning to judge themselves and hate their bodies for what they are not. Our girls should know that their bodies are absolutely amazing and CAN DO incredible things—and that their worth is not measured by anything except how big they love themselves. The very first book of its kind, written for girls ages newborn to 8, this book intends to teach all young girls their bodies CAN DO ANYTHING and that what they look like is irrelevant—we are all beautiful exactly the way we are. The authors’ rhyming, sing-song voices deliver captivating messages that are easy for young readers to understand and absorb, while the illustrator’s whimsical, modern drawings and vibrant colors bring characters to life on and off the page.

Firefighter Jones will kick off storytime with a reading of “Molly, By Golly” by Dianne Ochiltree and then follow up with some easy and important fire safety tips for children.
This legendary tale introduces young readers to Molly Williams, an African American cook for New York City's Fire Company 11, who is considered to be the first known female firefighter in U.S. history. One winter day in 1818, when many of the firefighting volunteers are sick with influenza and a small wooden house is ablaze, Molly jumps into action and helps stop the blaze, proudly earning the nickname Volunteer Number 11. Relying on historic records and pictures and working closely with firefighting experts, Dianne Ochiltree and artist Kathleen Kemly not only bring this spunky and little-known heroine to life but also show how fires were fought in early America.

More Than Tragic: Happy Endings, Adventure and Fantasy for All
PANEL DISCUSSION
THIS PANEL RECORDING WILL BE POSTED HERE:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Flc0VwlPlk&feature=youtu.be

This passage from Zora Neale Hurston's essay, "How It Feels to Be Colored Me" inspired the More Than Tragic: Happy Endings, Adventure and Fantasy for All discussion topic.
"But I am not tragically colored. There is no great sorrow dammed up in my soul, nor lurking behind my eyes."
Where the words "gendered" or "sexually oriented" or "religiously faithful" or "aged" or "made" could take the place of the word "colored", especially when authors who are not members of marginalized populations create characters and write points of view for members of marginalized populations, under the un/conscious assumptions that being Black, Brown, Indigenous, Asian, Latinx, 40+ (womxn), LGBTQUIA+ or any other trait that attracts discrimination in society as an automatically tragic circumstance.
The tragedy is sourced from living in a world that refuses to recognize, honor, and respect the equal intrinsic value of every human being.
How do these assumptions about tragic traits of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age etc. impact mainstream fiction?
This panel will be moderated by author Cardyn Brooks. We are so honored to have authors Gay G. Gunn, Pamela Beverly, Alexi Venice, and Kamari Talley on our virtual panel this year. Please follow them on social media, and visit their websites. You can find most information in our shop HERE.
