Writer and poet, Joan Drescher Cooper finds inspiration in her family and teaching career. In October 2019, her debut poetry collection, Birds Like Me, was published by Finishing Line Press. Her poetry and flash fiction have appeared recently in The Delmarva Review, Doorknobs & Body Paint and the Sand Dune Anthology. Joan has self-published two novels and a collection of short stories through Salt Water Media of Berlin: Finding Home on Lilac Hill, Return to Lilac Hill, and Lilac Hill Folly. She was the featured writer for the Edgar Allan Poe House’s Speaker’s Series in March 2020. Joan teaches at Kenwood High School in Baltimore, but she maintains membership in the Eastern Shore Writers Association and serves as a Berlin chapter treasurer for The Maryland Writers Association. Joan has sponsored creative writing for students through workshops, Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest, slam poetry events, the Dodge Poetry Festival Student Days, and school magazines.
